Why Journalists Need Dash
Standard note apps put your sources and your work at risk. Here is why privacy-first tools matter for journalism.
Source Protection
Your sources trust you with sensitive information. Standard note apps store data on servers that can be subpoenaed, hacked, or leaked. Dash keeps your notes encrypted on your device — they never leave unless you explicitly choose to share them.
Legal Compliance Concerns
Your notes live on your encrypted device by default — no third-party server holds your data. If you opt into sharing, notes are end-to-end encrypted on a zero-knowledge relay with no accounts, no logs, and auto-deletion after 30 days.
No Corporate Surveillance
Unlike cloud-based apps, Dash never analyzes your notes, tracks your usage, or builds profiles. There is no metadata to expose what you are investigating.
Security Details for the Technical
We know journalists need to verify security claims. Here is exactly how Dash protects your notes.
AES-256-GCM Encryption
The gold standard in encryption. Each password-protected note uses a unique encryption key derived from your password with 600,000 PBKDF2 iterations.
Offline by Default
Dash works entirely offline by default. Your notes stay on your device unless you explicitly share them. Sharing and live collaboration are opt-in and end-to-end encrypted.
No Server-Side Storage
Unlike Evernote, Notion, or Google Keep, your notes are never stored on our servers. Optional sharing uses a zero-knowledge relay that only handles encrypted blobs it cannot read — auto-deleted after 30 days.
No Account Required
Use Dash without creating an account. No email, no password stored with us, no personal information collected. Complete anonymity.
Zero Metadata Collection
We do not track what you write, when you write, or how often. No analytics, no telemetry, no usage data. Your activity is invisible.
Local Key Generation
Encryption keys are generated on your device using cryptographically secure random number generation. Keys never leave your machine.
Automatic EXIF Stripping
Images pasted into Dash are automatically stripped of GPS coordinates, camera info, and timestamps. Protect your sources by eliminating metadata trails.
